Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD)

The ISTD is one of the world's leading dance examination boards. Student's progress through the grades from Primary to Advance 2, developing skills and understanding of dance by gaining strong technique and the ability to communicate through dance in an expressive and artistic way.

The graded examinations build up progressively, ensuring that steps ad skills learnt at lowers levels prepare for the more complex movements as the children progress to higher grades. Studying all three genres - Imperial Ballet, Modern Theatre Dance and Tap Dance allows the children to develop a broad base of dance skills.

The examination structure of the ISTD is designed to cater equally for those who wish to progress on to a career in dance either as a performer or dance teacher, or for those pursuing dance purely as a leisure activity.

The ISTD dance examinations are accredited on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and count as UCAS points needed when applying for university places.
